WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Mary Gay Scanlon in her bid to represent Pennsylvania’s newly drawn 5thCongressional District.
“Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Mary Gay Scanlon, who has proven throughout her career to be a champion for women’s rights and an advocate for communities in need of a voice,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “We are at a tipping point in our nation’s history, and everything we stand for is at risk. It has never been more critical to elect leaders who will protect a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions. We need to elect more women like Mary Gay to public office and give more women a seat at the table.”
Mary Gay Scanlon has been a fearless advocate for children, women, families and the underserved for over 30 years. She currently serves as the national pro-bono counsel at her law firm, specializing in asylum, civil rights, voters’ rights, and advocacy for children and low income families. Mary Gay previously served as president of her local school board and worked as an attorney for the Education Law Center of Pennsylvania, an organization dedicated to fighting for equitable education for all children in Pennsylvania.
"We know that reproductive rights and access to affordable health care are always on the ballot,” said Mary Gay Scanlon, Democratic Nominee for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District. “Now more than ever, we need to elect representatives who view protecting those rights as a priority – not a line-item in a budget – up and down the ballot across the country and right here in Pennsylvania. I am proud to stand with Planned Parenthood and humbled to have received the Action Fund's endorsement.”
Pennsylvania currently has zero women representing the state in its Congressional delegation.
