A message to fellow Delco Democrats from Controller Joanne Phillips, Register of Wills Mary Walk and Sheriff Jerry Sanders.
Hello friends and fellow Delco Democrats! Last year was a historic year for progressives and Delco Democrats as we won seats across the county that had not been in Democratic control for over a century. We are all very thankful to you as we could not have done it without you.
We want to keep that momentum going for Democrats and are writing because we have someone we would like you to meet. Mary Gay Scanlon is running for Congress in the newly drawn 5th Congressional District. We believe that she is the best candidate to continue the work we all began last year and represent us in Congress. We strongly encourage you all to support Mary Gay so we can have a Congresswoman from Delco who represents our strong progressive values, win in November and take our values and our fight to Congress.
“I have known Mary Gay Scanlon for more than 25 years,” said Delaware County Controller Joanne Phillips. “As pro bono counsel at our firm she has been relentless in her advocacy for causes that we all care about. She led us to fight for causes such as protecting and expanding voting rights, fighting for better treatment for LGBT individuals, and pushing back on the inhumane immigration agenda of the Trump administration. Last year we provided over 43,000 hours in free legal services across 15 states to individuals and non-profits. Mary Gay makes a difference for people in every cause she becomes involved in. I know she will make a difference for us as Congresswoman."
Delaware County Register of Wills Mary Walk said, “Mary Gay has spent decades working on education issues and has been deeply involved in our local community from her work as President of the School Board. Her tenacity, intelligence and desire to help others is a hallmark of who she is. I am very proud to endorse her candidacy and I know that she will fight for all of us in D.C.”
“Mary Gay Scanlon and I both share the same values and ideas about criminal justice reform. She will fight to de-privatize our federal prisons. She will work to eliminate the mandatory minimums that are so egregiously harmful to a fair and humane criminal justice system. I am proud to support someone like Mary Gay. I know we can trust her to listen to our communities and to serve with compassion and empathy,” said Delaware County Sheriff Jerry Sanders.
Thank you! Let's continue the work we began last year by making Mary Gay Scanlon our Democratic Nominee for Congress.
